Dart Boards for Home and Club Play

The right dart board starts with the way you intend to use it. A first board for relaxed games, a board for regular practice and equipment for a shared playing room can have different priorities. Perth Dart Centre’s board category gives you a starting point for comparing those options. Look beyond the product photograph: consider the playing surface, scoring layout, mounting requirements and space around the board, then check the exact model specifications before buying.

Choose a board for your game

Begin with the type of darts you plan to use. Match the board to the intended tip type and follow the manufacturer’s guidance. If you are considering a traditional steel-tip setup, explore the sisal dart boards category. If your aim is more focused practice, compare the purpose of a training board with a standard scoring board instead of assuming they are interchangeable.

Think about who will use it, too. Shared equipment benefits from a straightforward scoring face and a location where everyone can see clearly. Regular individual practice may put more emphasis on the details of the playing surface and mounting arrangement.

Read the features that matter

Board descriptions can include wiring design, number-ring construction, surface layers and mounting systems. Read what the specific model offers without treating a feature name as a guarantee of better scores. Product photographs should let you inspect the scoring area and the way segment boundaries are formed. The rear view and included hardware are just as useful when planning installation.

  • Playing surface: check the material and intended dart type.
  • Scoring face: confirm standard play or a specialised training layout.
  • Mounting: review the supplied parts and instructions.
  • Accessories: check whether protection or lighting is included.

YOUR EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST

Plan the room before ordering

Choose a place with a clear throwing lane and enough room for players to move without crossing in front of the board. Consider doors, windows, furniture and the route people use through the room. A board that fits on the wall may still be unsuitable for the surrounding space. Measure carefully and review the dart board mounting guide as part of your planning.

Also think about where players will stand while waiting, where darts will be stored and how you will read or record scores. These small decisions make a home setup easier to use without repeatedly moving household items.

Choose protection and visibility together

A dartboard surround can add coverage around the board, while a cabinet offers a different style of enclosure. Neither should be selected from appearance alone. Check dimensions, compatibility and what the product is intended to protect. For lighting, review the fitting method and clearances rather than assuming every light fits every board arrangement.

Position the board so the face can be seen comfortably. When comparing dartboard lights, consider nearby power, cable routing and other equipment already attached to the wall. The complete arrangement should be assessed together before mounting.

Make maintenance part of the choice

Read the care instructions supplied with the board. For sisal boards, manufacturer guidance commonly includes keeping the surface dry and distributing wear by rotating the board where its design allows. Do not apply a cleaning method intended for a different material. Keep the instructions somewhere accessible and check the board and fixings periodically.

If several people will share the setup, agree how it will be stored and checked between sessions. Before purchasing, ask Perth Dart Centre about any missing product detail, using the exact model name and the accessories you intend to fit. That is more useful than asking whether a board is simply the best.

Dart board questions

Is a training board a replacement for a standard board?

It depends on its layout. Some training products are designed for particular target exercises rather than ordinary scoring. Read the description and decide whether you need it alongside a standard board for your preferred games.

Does every board come with a surround?

No inclusion should be assumed. Check the written contents list for the chosen product or package. Product images may show accessories separately available, and the same board can appear in several differently equipped bundles.

What should I measure before buying?

Measure the available wall area, throwing lane and space for accessories, following the relevant setup instructions. Include cabinet door movement, nearby furniture and the position of power outlets when those features apply to your planned arrangement.
