Dartboard Lights for a Clearer View of the Game

Good dartboard lighting helps you see the target clearly and read where the darts have landed. A bright room can still leave shadows across the board, especially when the main light sits behind the player or off to one side. Dedicated dartboard lights focus attention where the game happens.

Choosing a light is also a fit decision. The board, surround, cabinet and any scoring hardware all share the same space. Compare the shape and mounting method of the light with your existing setup before deciding which model belongs in your room.

Assess the problem before choosing the light

Stand at the throw line under the lighting you normally use. Look at the top and bottom of the board, the number ring and the shadow around darts already in the board. Notice whether the issue is uneven coverage, distracting glare or simply too little light in the playing area.

That quick check gives you a useful starting point. A product photograph shows the light’s appearance, but it cannot reproduce every room. Compare the manufacturer’s description of light coverage and any adjustment features. Treat claims about reduced shadows as product-specific information rather than assuming all lights behave in the same way.

YOUR EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST

Understand the mounting arrangement

Different lighting systems attach in different ways. Some are designed around the board, while others are intended for particular cabinets or mounting arrangements. Check the specified attachment method, the supported equipment and the space the light occupies once installed.

Record the model of your dart board and any accessories already fitted. If a product uses the board’s outer structure for attachment, confirm that your board has the required features. Follow the instructions for the exact light rather than adapting guidance from another version with a similar name.

Check the whole combination, not just the board

A light can be compatible with a board yet still need a closer check against a surround or cabinet. Look for clearance around the number ring, doors, hinges and other projecting parts. Consider whether the light can remain in position when a cabinet is closed and whether it leaves comfortable access for retrieving darts.

If you use dartboard surrounds, compare the surround’s profile with the lighting manufacturer’s guidance. For dart cabinets, check the actual internal space and door movement. Avoid assuming that buying every component from one brand automatically makes every combination compatible.

Know what is included in the Australian listing

Read the package contents for the exact item being sold. Check the supplied mounting parts, power accessories and any controls described in the listing. Overseas product photographs and instructions can differ from the version supplied locally, so use the Australian product details when making your purchase.

Replacement parts also need a model check. A power accessory or light strip for one system may not suit another, even when the products share a brand. If a part is missing or needs replacement, identify the light model and follow the manufacturer’s guidance. Ask about the correct part rather than substituting a similar-looking component.

Plan for everyday use and future changes

Think beyond the first evening. You need to retrieve darts, maintain the board and access the light’s controls without making the setup awkward. Keep the product instructions somewhere easy to find. Before moving or adjusting the equipment, follow the relevant manufacturer’s handling and power instructions.

If you intend to add a new board, cabinet or scoring system later, note that now when comparing lights. A clear record of the existing products helps you assess those changes. Contact Perth Dart Centre about lighting compatibility with the names of the parts you want to combine and photographs if they help explain the available space.

Dartboard lighting questions

Do I need a light if the room already looks bright?

Not every setup has the same need. Check the board from the throw line while using the room’s usual lighting. If the face is unevenly lit or dart shadows are distracting, a suitable dedicated light may address that specific problem.

Will any ring light fit any dartboard?

No universal fit should be assumed. Compare the exact light’s attachment method and compatibility information against the board and other accessories. Clearances can matter even when the board itself is supported.

Can I reuse a replacement part from another light?

Only where the manufacturer explicitly confirms compatibility. Similar plugs, light strips or housings do not establish that parts are interchangeable. Provide the precise model details when asking for a replacement and follow the supplied instructions.
